How does your garden grow? :: Insect Control and Makeover by Laura

Figured I’d share one of the few photos I’ve taken of my garden. I should really get out there with a camera more often….

Since it’s almost the weekend,  I’ve got some great products for your garden & home, a garden makeover sweepstakes and some natural pest repellent recipes!

Ortho, makers of some of your more familiar insect control products, has developed a new EcoSense Brand. Formulated with specially selected active ingredients, Ortho® EcoSense™ Brand offers sensible effective solutions for insect control, plant disease and rose care. Kill bugs and control disease to help flowers, vegetables and roses thrive.

Enter yourself in the Miracle-Gro® Organic Choice® $5.000 Garden Makeover Sweepstakes and win a garden makeover: a consultation with a garden expert and products and plants that would be determined by the expert.

Good luck! Let’s cross our fingers on of us wins!

Want to fend off bugs naturally? Research has shown that some plant oils and natural ingredients combat pests as well as those harsh and harmful products. For all spray-on applications, dilute 20 drops of essential oil with 1 cup grape seed oil and 1 1/2 cups of purified water (shake well).

Ants? Use Peppermint essential oil or Citronella essential oil, use 3-5 drops on windowsills, doorways and under the sink.

Blackflies? Use Cinnamon oil or Tumeric oil, spray or dab on clothing and exposed skin.

Cockroaches? Use Citrus oil, especially kaffir lime oil, spray on problem areas.

Mosquitos? Use catnip oil or Thyme oil, spray or dap on clothing or exposed skin.

Ticks? Use Lemon eucalyptus oil, spray or dab on clothing and exposed skin.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Waggin’ Wednesday :: Mean Green Clean by Laura

I know I post a lot about cleaners on Waggin’ Wednesdays, and in general, but I think that it is the easiest and most beneficial set of products that cause us the most environmental and physical harm – and an easy way to make your pets live and smell a little better!

Green Bulldog makes high quality Eco-Friendly Cleaning and Pet Care Products. (They also have super cute pics of animals on the site!) They offer a Pet Shampoo – 16 ounce Concentrated shampoo with certified organic ingredients such as tea tree oil, neem oil, and eucalyptus oil for leaving your pet’s coat clean and shiny, soothing itchy skin, and warding off ticks and fleas.

Thanks to Kelly, here’s some additional info: Green Bulldog offers a lot of great products for pet owners. Another product I recommend is Fur-Zoff. It removes pet hair from fabrics and it’s made from recycled materials. They sell them for only $10 at http://www.furzoff.net

Recently, Meghan and I visited my favorite shop in Savannah GA – Nourish, a great source for natural and eco-friendly soaps, lotions, etc. I have already had a chance to try out “don’t BUG by DOG soap” on my gremlin, and it leaves her fresh smelling and has worked on all of the bugs that reside in Florida.

While I highly suggest visiting their store, you can also visit online and purchase all of your yummy smelling soaps and awesome assessories.

Need to feel clean after wrangling your pet through a bath/shower? Victoria Secret is having a sale on their “Naturally Victoria’s Secret” beauty line – buy 2 get 1 free. (Use offer code “NATURALLY“)

I know I’m enjoying my Acai Berry & Magnolia lotion, and the Blackberry & Tonka Bean “all-over moisture salve”. Both smell great, delicate but long lasting.

ALSO – if you purchase today, get 25% off any single item with code “VS25SAVE“.

Not clean and smelling good enough? Worrying about what to get the man in your life for Father’s Day?

Bath & Body Works is having a sale on their Lucky Tiger line for Men. Get a Free Shave Cream Sample with any Lucky Tiger Purchase.

What makes it green you asked?

  • Certified organic olive fruit oil lubricates and protects
  • Certified organic calendula extract cools and promotes healing
  • Certified organic chamomile extract calms and soothes

Go forth and get mean clean and green!

Laura and I are spending the long weekend in Savannah, GA taking a much needed break, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of your can’t spend your extra day being crafty and green. Check out the links below for some ideas on some green craft ideas that you can work on today.

How about turning some junk mail into some funky beads?

You could even turn one of those shirts your hubby/boyfriend/dad/brother doesn’t wear anymore into a cute dress for your favorite little girl.

Here is a crafty little owl for your favorite little one.

Check Ali Edwards‘ tutorial on how to use some leftover paper scraps and your favorite punch to make some crafty wall art.

Does the phone company keep bringing your those pesky tree wasting phone books? Try making them into a desk organizer or two.

Make yourself a reusable lunch bag so that you can take your lunch to work this summer.
