Spring Cleaning? :: Recycle to get cool stuff by Laura

Anyone Spring Cleaning? Summer Cleaning? or just plain tired of piling up “stuff” you want to reuse? I know I’m terrible at keeping stuff for future projects that never seem to become projects, but feel bad for tossing it away or in the recycling bin. You know us crafty peoples probably are the worse pack rats!

The first great way to recycle and reuse is with TerraCycle! They take product packages that you send in, PAY you for them, and then recycle them into other fun products! Just think, it’s a great way to get your kids into recycling while finding cool recycled products for you, friends, family, and even the family pet!

My next cool way to unclutter is a Nextworth and Target partnership. Recycle your old electronics (which is a PAIN to recycle locally), DVD’s and CD’s and get a Target Gift Card! Hoorah! I just looked up my old phone I just stopped using, and it’s worth over $26 – hello Target shopping trip!

Save up to 62% today on the Planet Earth series, which is applicable for the regular DVD’s and the Blu-Ray. I can tell you at that price, I’m tempted to get the Blu-Ray version to blow my socks off!

Amazon also has some great eco-friendly items for sale all of the time, and have created an Earth Day page spotlighting these items – check them out! They have an item for every Earth Day vow you have made, reduce waste, save power, eco your dog, the works!

Want to reduce your waste further? Check out Amazon’s Trade-In system! Trade in some items, (that little pile of regretted DVD’s) and get an Amazon Gift Card in return!

Copenhagen Hotel :: Paid to Exercise by Laura

If you’re actually one of “those” people who exercises while you’re vacationing, this article is for you! Especially if you’re visiting a certain Copenhagen hotel.

Crowne Plaza’s stationary bicycles are hooked up to generators, which provide electricity for the hotel. Guests staying there can receive a $36 meal voucher if they produce 10 watt-hours of electricity, which typically takes about 15 minutes of pedaling. iPhones attached to the bikes’ handlebars display power generation as it’s occurring. Crowne Plaza execs hope the offer will lessen the hotel’s carbon footprint and incentivize fitness for guests.

The fraction of the hotel’s energy generated by biking is probably pretty small, but the concept is quite novel. If all stationary bikes could be hooked up to generators like Crowne Plaza’s, think about how much carbon-free energy could be generated in places like gyms, hotels and college campuses.

With the week winding down, I always look towards what fun activities are going on this weekend, and onto next week. Today being Thursday, it’s officially ONE week until Earth Day!

What are you doing for Earth Day? What is your company doing?

I know there’s a lot of great promos going along, and I look forward to my free delicious organic milkshake from Evos, and the free reusable bag from Target this Sunday!

A local company in Tampa, the Nucci Spine & Orthopedic Institute, along with many other local companies, is taking a giant green step towards educating others and co-workers on green living practices, while saving the company money by turning off additional lights, etc. Check out their Earth Day 2010 Post!

Loads of Laundry :: Smelling Good the Eco-Friendly Way by Laura

With doing a HEAP of laundry this weekend, I always have in my mind how to make things easier and more eco-friendly. While I’ve chosen great Seventh Generation products for the sudsies, and relatively eco-friendly dryer sheets, I did find some cool “Dryer Pillows.”

I don’t know about you, but I love the fresh scene of those little dryer sheets, but have an impossible time finding it after the job is done, and tend to find them on the floor somewhere or stuck to some clothes. It’s MUCH easier to feel out and find me cool “Dryer Balls.”

I have found two cute options for a very reasonable price. Just think of using up your current box, and never having to but another box! The one pictures was found on Etsy, with great “Keep Calm and Carry On” themed ones, and all sorts of fun ones in the same Etsy shop, by zJayne.

The second option is “Farmhouse Laundry Sachets” – both are gorgeous!

Box Appetit :: Enjoy lunch on reusable cuteness by Laura

Black + Blum, an Anglo-Swiss design team who have created a range of really awesome looking products. A nice modern and creative twist on some things we use on a regular basis.

They have created an inspired lunch box, Box Appetit, is “more like a ceramic bowl than your standard food container and with better functionality. The ‘glass like’ lid locks to the body for a water tight seal and has an ingenious sauce dipping area (good for sushi lovers). A sauce pot is ideal for salad dressing (or ketchup), so you can dress your salad just before you eat it. An inner dish allows you to split different foods so you can microwave a hot dish, but keep other foods cold. We have also included a fork / knife for easy one handed eating. “

Another great thing, it’s made from polypropylene and copolyester(BPA free) and is microwave and dishwasher safe.
