Summer is definitely here with temperatures raising everywhere. What’s the most necessary item for summer? Sunscreen. Why not choose an eco-friendly alternative? You’re placing this on your body, in the environment, and sometimes in the ocean – this should be the best product, right? After much research, I found a great company: Soleo Organics.

Soleo Organics uses micronized zinc oxide and is the only all-natural, organically sourced sunscreen that is SPF 30+, broad spectrum, and water resistant. No chemical uv-absorbers, no synthetic preservatives, no titanium dioxide. Micronized zinc oxide is a great broadspectrum uv reflector. It is safe, non toxic and unlike traditional zinc, microfine zinc does not leave the skin ghostly white.

They even have a blog! Check it out HERE. Or use their online store site HERE to purchase!

Thrifty Thursday :: Tupperware for Charity! by Laura

Friends To The Forlorn Pitbull Rescue has been a recent group that I have been following, since I donated to their cause. It is run out of Georgia, and provides inspiring and sometimes saddening updates via their Facebook Page on a regular basis. While donating straight out to the cause is always appreciated and completely tax deductible, some of us enjoy getting something for our moneys. How about Tupperware? They just set up a page where 40% of your purchase goes back to the cause! How awesome is that? Being Eco-Friendly AND Friendly all in one? Purchase durable, sustainable products while donating 40% of your purchase to a needy group helping out some super cute dogs.

We all have the fever for the flavor, you know you get the itch for the forbidden food. Cupcakes. Delicious sugary heaven in a awesome little package. With all of the cupcakeries starting up in almost every city, it’s becoming hard to tell them apart. Well, eco-ladies and gentleman, I give you the Little Cupcake Bakeshop of NYC.

Some of the great things about this bakeshop is they have “The Little Cupcake Initiative,” a volunteer-driven community outreach program. They also are Carbon Neutral, running on wind turbine and hydro electric power. They also have Frosting Global Warming: Little Cupcake Initiative’s Guide to Becoming Carbon Neutral, a practical manual containing innovative sustainability practices and solutions people can integrate at the work place and in their everyday lives. Visit www.frostingglobalwarming.com for more info! They also support local groups and charities in what seems to be their minimal spare time!

Here’s some further details on their awesome green efforts: Our equipment is from certified procurers of green materials and products. We use energy efficient lighting, practices, equipment and toxic free chemicals in paints, oils, cleaners and floor treatments.

What’s more to love than an awesome cupcakery / bakery? An Eco-Friendly one!!
